~ Hello, September with Sandi ~

Hello, hello!
Thanks so much for coming by the blog today.
Sandi here with you today sharing my September creations.
It is always so exciting to go in my scrap room and play with my Blue Fern Studios projects!
I love being a part of this team.

"Summer Vacation, Lucy Style"

First up: I haven't done a "Lucy" page in a while, so this old photo of Lucy fishing is perfect for using my Seaside Cottage papers. I've used both sides of the Splendor paper so that I could slit the grooves between the wood panels and distress them a bit. I've only used a minimal amount of mixed media so that the beautiful images would be dominant. Just a bit of colorizing with Cotton Candy Imagine Mist and stenciling.

To get a uniform look, all three pieces of chipboard were treated the same way. First they were primed with white gesso, then heat embossed with a combination of Ginger and Chili Powder Embossing Powder. The large lantern from the Seaside Lanterns set got a heavier dose of Chili Powder, It was simply tucked in amongst my flowers and other paper layers.  The Harvest Lilies are new to the store and they seemed to work perfectly for this layout!

I thought the chain and lantern would complete the corner of this page and indeed, they fit beautifully and balanced the design.

I love the chunky look of the Summer Vacation chipboard and tried to give it a bit more ombre' look with my two powders. I left sections of the chipboard less heated for an interesting texture.

A good close-up of the dimension you can achieve with your layers, chipboard and flowers. The photo was framed with Seaside Cottage Mermaid and Calling Cards.

Blue Fern Studios Products used:

Chipboard: Seaside Lanterns, Summer Vacation

"Fall Memories"

My granddaughter KK loves her horses! She recently sent a few photos that I'm sure she's hoping to see on some scrapbook pages! LOL I pulled out one of my favorite collections … Autumn Anthology because I knew it would work perfectly with her blue checked shirt and her horse's coat. Because I had a wide section of blue background using the Robin paper, I was able to do some simple stenciling without covering up any pretty images. The Mercantile paper is an absolute fave of mine and I've torn it into strips. It's a busy design but the colors and images are wonderful.

I have a lot of layers of chipboard going here and it's hard to photograph because they are semi-covered with the photo layer. But I used the Mini Ring Things as a bottom left layer and also around the edges of the page. These were inked and embossed with Ginger and given a smidgen bit of Burnt Copper Glitter for shine. The next layer, other than the paper was the Flourish Medley piece which was cut in half to lengthen it. It was embossed with Ebony Embossing Powder as well as Ginger, topped off with bits of the Burnt Copper Glitter. The Collage Frame was treated the same and is directly beneath my matted photo.

I wanted to share just a closer view of the frame and flourish pieces. They look divine in real life!

For flowers, I combined some of the Tranquil Blooms with our Seaside Lilies. A Calling Card serves as my title.

I'm hooked on these side views because depth, layers and texture are "my thing!"

"Remember Moments"

This "Mermaid" paper has become the signature paper from the Seaside Cottage collection and I love it! My original intent was to use it for an old photo of my dad but that will have to come another time …. once I get more of these papers. However, I was itching to scrap this brother and sister photo taken near a beach. Photo credit to the Souza's photographer, name unknown.

Since everyone has already used this paper, I decided to "go big or go home" and used the large title "Remember Moments." Otherwise, it's actually a quite simple page. Under my photo I've used the Crossing the Lines chipboard. Both of these large pieces were inked and treated with some old rusting powders.

Seaside Gala and Calling Cards papers were torn and tucked under my photo and on top of the chipboard. Cheesecloth was used as a base. I'm loving how versatile the Blue Fern Studios lilies are.

A close-up of the title and also a view of some of the random stamping.

The stenciling is light but yet ties the theme together. Now this layout is headed off to this sister who is missing her brother while he's away on the mission field.

Blue Fern Studios Products used:

Chipboard: Remember Moments, Crossing the Lines

That's all for now!
See you next month!

February Projects by Bec Genet

Hi everyone, today I'm here today with my February Shares. I've made layouts with the amazing my Blush and Timeless collection.

Special

I used the new Blush collection for this layout. To start my layout I began my tearing the edge of the Reminisce paper from the Blush collection. I layered the torn edge under the paper as well as adding the border strip in too. I attached these layers to a strip of the Enamored paper to make a full 12x12 page. Next I took the rest of the Enamored paper to mat my photo.

To add details to the background I used the brick stamp from the Essential Textures Stamp set with the Cotton Candy embossing powder. I also used some modeling paste through a script stencil.

I coloured all my chipboard with embossing powder on this layout, I used the Icicle embossing powder on the main part of Ruth's Doily and Cotton Candy on the centre piece of the doily, I used  Icicle again on the word 'Special' from the Perfect, Adorable, Special Word Set. And on the Flourish Medley I used Icicle, Cotton Candy and Honey.

I cut the Ruth's Doily into two pieces, one larger than the other. I tucked the larger piece under my photo and the small piece to the edge of the page, with the centre piece of the doily popped under the flowers on the side of the photo. Next I tucked the Flourish Medley under the other side of my photo to add interest to both sides of the photo.
Finally I layered on all my embellishments, I used flowers, cheesecloth, resin pieces, buttons, pearls and vellum butterflies

Chipboard: Ruth's Doily, Flourish Medley, and Perfect, Adorable, Special Word Set.
Embossing Powder: Icicle, Cotton Candy and Honey
Stamps: Essential Textures Stamp

Adorable

For this layout I used the Fondness paper from the Blush Collection as my background paper, and a piece of the Sweetheart paper to back my photo.

To my background I added some light pink stamping with the Weathered Doily Stamp, I put pink Gelatos through a flower stencil and then some white texture paste with a flourish stencil

I embossed the chipboard word 'Adorable', from the Perfect, Adorable, Special word set with the embossing powders Buttercup and Cotton Candy. I coloured the chipboard pieces from the Bird Ornaments and the Leafy Rings (the large one in pack) with Gelatos

I mounted my photo on cardboard to prop it up and layered flowers around my photo. I cut the Leafy Rings in half, one half went under the top corner of my photo, the other tucked under the flowers. I glued the on of the Bird Ornaments to the top of the page and added flowers down one side. For extra embellishing I used seam binding ribbon, pearls, resin and mini lace flowers

Sassy

This layout was made using the February Sketch

I used the Timeless Collection on this layout, I chose the back side of the Calling Cards as my background paper, then I backed my photos on the Abode paper.

On my background I used the Vintage Edges stamp set with the Iris embossing powder. Next I mixed modeling paste and a light beige mica powder to put through a flourish stencil.

I used this same mix of paste and mica to cover the a piece from the Classic Ornaments set. I then went around the edges of the chipboard with brown ink before I tucked in between my paper layers.
I covered the Deco Shelf chipboard piece with the embossing powder in Oatmeal, I tucked this under the bottom of my photos. Then I covered the chipboard word Sassy, from the Cute, Sweet, Sassy word set, with embossing powder in Garnet.

I added some flowers in coordinating colours, putting little peices of frayed cheesecloth amongst them. Finally I added a few vellum butterflies and pearls to complete the layout

My First Projects for Blue Fern Studios: Nicole Doiron

Hello all you Blue Fern Studios fans!!

I am thrilled to be here with you today to share my very first post and projects as DT!

First, let me introduce myself properly!  I'm Nicole Doiron from Canada's beautiful East coast!
I share my home and my life with my fiance Yves and our fur baby Sugar the cat.  I love reading, music, social game nights with friends, road trips, quality time with family and spending as much time in my scraproom as I can.  I have a shabby chic romantic style and I love to dabble in mixed media techniques.  I started scrapping in 2004 and started blogging about it in 2011, and it's been a marvelous adventure ever since!  I am super excited to be creating for Blue Fern Studios as laser-cut chipboard is my #1 crafty product and Blue Fern Studios designs are the most beautiful!

You can visit my blog at http://scrap-utopia.blogspot.com to see more of my creations!

I created 3 layouts to share with you today!

This page of my 2 beautiful nieces features the Timeless collection.
The papers from this line are so gorgeous, romantic and elegant, exactly my style.
I added some added texture and design to my background with the Texture Circles stamp set.

I treated both the Flutter Medley and Grande Cage chipboard pieces the same,
by first covering them with a thick coat of gesso which I heated until it bubbled.

I then experimented with a coat of Oatmeal Imagine Ink embossing powder,
and decided to add some brown paint, topping it off with a coat of
ivory metallic shimmer paint to give it a polished brassy look.

Blue Fern Studios products used:

paper: Timeless (Papillons, Main Street, Calling Cards)
chipboard: Flutter Medley, Grande Cages
embossing powder: Cotton Candy, Oatmeal
stamps: Texture Circles

I gave tribute this month to the 3 most important ladies in my life,
my nieces in my layout above, and my mom in this next one.
Using papers from the Blush collection, I combined the soft feminine colors
to create layers of pretty flowery designs perfect for such a special photo.

The word 'Amazing' from the Brilliant, Amazing, Dazzling set seemed like
a very fitting title as my mother is certainly an amazing person.

There are so many beautiful pieces in the Blue Fern Studios chipboard selection,
but I have to say that the Medley designs are my favorite, this one called
Flourish Medley being no exception. I cut it into 2 pieces in order to be able to
border the complete right side of my page.

On both the title and the Flourish Medley, I used the Honey embossing powder,
and then dabbed on some yellow and white paint with a sponge.
Adding a whitewash effect with dabs of white paint over my paper
and embellishments is somewhat of a signature style that I use on pretty much
all my creations as you will be able to see in the coming months.

Blue Fern Studios products used:

paper: Blush (Reminisce, Fondness, Calling Cards)
chipboard: Flourish Medley, Amazing word
embossing powder: Honey

My last share for this first post is this Winter-themed layout inspired by the January sketch.

I have combined papers from 2 different older collections to create this page:
the background is from Montage and the teal paper as well as the text strips
are from Paisley & Vine.  I loved the very Winter-y white and teal color combo!

On my background I stamped some designs from Essential Textures and Love Story 1
to create some patterns flowing out from under the Snowflake Frame (a must have
for your Winter chipboard stash) and the flower clusters.

I first treated the chipboard with white gesso and then added some embossing powder
opting for Pearl for the snowflakes and Fern for the title.  I then dabbed on
some white acrylic paint and added a little shimmery gloss.

This picture is very special as it depicts my maternal grand parents' house,
a home that holds so many awesome childhood memories.

Blue Fern Studios products used:

paper: Montage (Fairyland), Paisley & Vine (Splendor, Playing Cards)
chipboard: Shabby Flakes, Snowflake Frame, Dream word
embossing powder: Pearl, Fern
stamps: Essential Textures, Love Story 1

I really hope that I have inspired you to take out your Blue Fern Studios products and create today!

Always and Forever

Hello friends!

How is your Monday? I'm home with a sick child but having fun doing some craft work with him. Today, I have a reverse canvas tutorial for Blue Fern Studios that I would like to share with you. It's created with the stunning new "Love Story" collection and I used some of the gorgeous chippies from BFS as well.

Here is the canvas:

Lots of fussy cutting and layering, which I felt was a good way to bring out the loveliness of this collection.

Some close-ups:

Popping up my elements for dimension and sneaking in the Floral Medley chipboard in between. I'm also very into canvas frills after I found a huge bargain pack for only $2 at the local textile district. Told myself that I must find the time for such bargain hunts in the heart of the city.

Tucking in flowers to fill out the space, and dotting the background with bling.

My title piece from "calling cards". I did a lot less alteration on my flowers this time round, preferring to let the colors from the papers take the limelight.

And here is the start to finish video for this reverse canvas. Hope you enjoy it!
